02/07/2019 11:53 AMSoon, they'll be together again: on Saturday, Feb. 16, Branford High School (BHS) Music Makers and the famed Yale Whiffenpoofs will rekindle a crowd-pleasing night of A cappella music during a special performance at BHS, when BHS Music Makers present "A Night with the Yale Whiffenpoofs."
The community is invited to attend the benefit event, set for Feb. 16, 5:30 p.m. in the Cathy Ann Roding Auditorium at BHS, 185 East Main St. All ticket proceeds will help support the BHS Choir Program, BHS Model Congress and the Yale Whiffenpoofs.
Founded in 1909, the "Whiffs" are today the best-known and oldest collegiate A cappella group in the country. The highly entertaining vocal group, made up of 14 of Yale's most talented seniors, always draws an appreciative crowd. The Branford community turned out to fill the BHS auditorium when the group last appeared with the Music Makers at BHS in 2013, marking the Whiff's sixteenth benefit concert at the school.
BHS Music Makers is an auditioned group and vocal class for the school's most talented tenth-through-twelfth grade students. The group performs throughout the year, with the students also often serving as Musical Ambassadors for town events, ceremonies and programs.
Founded by AP US History teacher Jim Petela, BHS Model Congress is a demanding extra-curricular program offering an exceptional educational and civic experience to students in grades 9 – 12. Each year, BHS Model Congress members participate -- and take prizes – in annual competitions including Princeton Model Congress, Yale Model Congress and Harvard Model Congress, Penn Model Congress.
