Madison Jaycees Turkey Trot Nov. 22

The Madison Thanksgiving tradition is here again: The 40th annual Madison Jaycees Turkey Trot brings a five-mile road race and a two-mile family fun fitness walk to town on Thursday, Nov. 22. As one of the largest races in the state, close to 3,500 people are expected to participate this year.

The race starts on the Madison Town Green and then makes its way along the waterfront. Co-Race Director David Moloney said this is a fun event for all ages and the proceeds from the race allows the Jacyees to give thousands of dollars to charity each year.

“Proceeds from this event are given to other local shoreline charitable organizations especially food banks, fuel assistance programs, and scholarships to Madison and Guilford students,” he said in a press release. “Lenny & Joe’s Fish Tail is our title sponsor and they are providing their famous Chowder to those in attendance. There will also be bagels from Cohen’s Bagels and cornbread from The Stand in Branford. We feature a beer truck from Kona Brewery and Mionetto Prosecco pours a tasty concoction. The event is family friendly with people with strollers and dogs participating in the Family Fun Walk. We will have a band The Leaf Jumpers on the course to entertain the participants and keep them motivated and a DJ on the green.”

As the race does move through the heart of town, Madison Police are asking residents to be aware of road closures during the race. Residents and motorists should expect traffic delays along the race route between 10 a.m. and noon as well as increased traffic and detours around the Town Green starting as early as 8 a.m.

According to police, affected areas include Boston Post Road and all intersecting roads between Durham Road and Janna’s Lane, including Academy Street, Copse Road, Island Avenue, Britton Lane, West Wharf Road, Lantern Hill Road, and Rock Ledge Drive. Access to the following roads will be extremely limited during the event: Island Avenue, Middle Beach Road West, Middle Beach Road, and Seaview Avenue.

Motorists are encouraged to be patient and seek alternate routes during the Turkey Trot.
