North Branford Town Tree Lighting, Activities Dec. 7

Santa Claus gets a safe escort to the North Branford Town Tree Lighting each year, thanks to a big assist from North Branford Fire Department.Kelley Fryer/The Sound

On Friday, Dec. 7, North Branford will come together to experience and enjoy the Town Tree Lighting and all the activities planned to take place at the town-owned Augur property, 290 Forest Road, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Organized by North Branford Parks and Recreation and co-sponsored by North Branford Rotary Club, the annual tree lighting event brings out the town to share in the season at the same site where North Branford gathers to enjoy the annual Potato and Corn Festival each August.

Starting at 6:30 p.m., the night's guest of honor, Santa Claus, will arrive by fire engine to light the tree, followed by an evening filled with free activities and holiday spirit.

Activities planned for the rain-or-shine event include a petting zoo, ice sculpting display, tractor-pulled hayrides (courtesy of Cliff Potter), marshmallow roasting (sticks provided by Smorstix), hot chocolate and cookies; and, of course, visits with Santa for the kids. Holiday song and music will be provided by North Branford High School (NBHS) choir and NBHS Sax Ensemble.

Additional food will be offered from JJ's Food Truck and Sugar Bakery Cupcake Truck.
