East Haven Backs Stefanowski, Returns Fasano and Albis

East Haven came out to vote with a strong showing for this year’s midterm elections. In a year of a contentious gubernatorial election, 56 percent of East Haven voters favored Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Stefanowski with his campaign taking in 5,999 votes. Stefanowski lost to Democrat Ned Lamont, who prevailed with more than 48 percent of the vote statewide in a race with multiple contenders.

Ned Lamont took in only 38 percent of East Haven’s votes for a total of 4,099 votes.

State Representative James Albis (D) beat out Robert Parente (R) to win re-election to the General Assembly in District 99. With 4,866 votes, Albis scored 58 percent of the vote. Parente tallied 3,514 or 42 percent.

“I’m overwhelmed by the support I’ve received from my friends, my family, and my volunteers. I’m honored that East Haven has put trust in me for another two years,” Albis said.

Parente is proud of the campaign he ran.

“I stand by every message that I put out there,” he said. “My people worked as hard as they could...The reception for my message was phenomenal.”

For the 96th Assembly District, most of which is in New Haven, 58 percent of East Haven voters selected Republican challenger Eric Mastroianni in his race against Roland Lemar (D). Lemar dominated the race overall, taking 74 percent of the total vote.

State Senator Len Fasano (R) will also retain his seat in District 34. Fasano captured 51 percent of the vote in East Haven, scoring 5,202 votes to Democratic challenger Aili McKeen’s 4,851.

Neither state senate candidate returned calls for comment following the election. On his campaign Facebook page, Fasano posted, “I would like to thank the voters of the 34th District for re-electing me to the State Senate. I thank you all for your support. I will continue to work hard for my district and the State of Connecticut.”

On her campaign Facebook page, McKeen posted, “We worked hard and had at least a little fun, but we did not prevail today. But it’s a marathon, not a sprint, and we laid a good foundation of data to build upon in the future. Thanks everyone for your support and efforts! See you all soon, as our causes still need advocates and activists, and we’re a team!”
