Madison Hosts Many Veterans Day Events

Veterans Day, Nov. 11, is a federal holiday in the United States to honor all those who have served in the U.S. military. Nov. 11 marks the day that the major combat in World War 1 ended. In 1918, President Woodrow Wilson named Nov. 11 Armistice Day.

World War I formally ended on Nov. 11, at the 11th hour on the 11th month. Originally known as Armistice Day, it was meant to honor those who died in World War 1, but when it was amended in the early 1940s, it was changed to honor all the veterans who have served in the U.S. military. In the next year, we will be entering the centennial for World War I and in 2019, the centennial for the American Legion.

The American Legion, Griswold Post 79, the Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW), Post 2096 of Madison and its Auxiliaries would like to invite the community to join in honoring our veterans at a ceremony on the Madison Green, Sunday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.

Refreshments will follow at The American Legion Post 79, 43 Bradley Road.

In the afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m., there will be a musical program to benefit Operation American Soldier. Patriot Sound and The Vonzelles will perform. Tickets for $10 are required for this program as there is limited seating. Tickets can be reserved by calling 203-245-1533.
