Chester Farmers’ Market Wraps Up for the Season on Sunday

Although the weather may tell a different story, it’s time for the Chester Sunday Farmers’ Market to pack it in for the season, so market fans should make one last trip to stock up on their favorites on Sunday, Oct. 14.

Since the early 2000s, the weekly market has been growing in popularity and has now become a Sunday morning destination shopping experience for locals and out-of-towners alike. With more than 25 vendors offering myriad items including jams, fresh baked bread, eggs, produce, milk, fish, meat, and poultry, the market has something for just about everyone, including four-legged friends.

Touted as one of the most dog-friendly summer spots, when the street closes in downtown Chester for market time, it becomes a dog show of sorts, with specimens of all shapes and sizes prancing at the end of owners’ leashes.

In addition, the overall community vibe of the market has been infused over the years with the presence of new weekly bands and the usual fare from Frank Andrews Mobile Kitchen, which always includes a breakfast and lunch pizza.

“I think it was a great season this year,” said Market Manager Sue Hotkowski. “Everyone came out and supported the market despite the very hot temperatures this summer, so we are very pleased and plan to do the same again next year.”

Hotkowski reminded that the holiday market will start up on Sunday, Nov. 25 and run each Sunday until Dec. 23. It will take place in Chester’s downtown area from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. but the road will not be closed.
