Parking Changes Tested in Chester

Last week, the Main Street Project Committee and Nathan L Jacobson & Associates Inc. completed a trial paint of the potential new parking design in front of Chester Wall in the village for the parking and sidewalk area between Spring Street and the Water Street Bridge.

This project used white chalk paint to draw new lines and used green chalk paint to temporarily cover the existing white lines. The new white lines are what acted as temporary lines, in which residents were encouraged to park in, to test this new design.

“We’re looking for public input and opinions of design and how it would work,” said Chester First Selectman Lauren Gister.

The chalk was expected to last a week, and on Aug. 7 a meeting was held on-site to discuss the new plan and to weigh its success.

“The idea is all about community participation in the focus and future of the town,” said Gister. “It’s not always easy to get everyone to come out, but the opportunity is always there and more voices are always better.”

Comments on the trial parking can be emailed to jennywatrous@chesterct.org. The Main Street Project Committee meets next on Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. in Town Hall; visit the town website chesterct.org for details.
