Heroes Helping Homeless Pets: Meet Mackenzie and Co.

The Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter has joined with The Sound and photographer Kathryn Schauer for the month of July to honor those who serve us in our communities by recognizing their work while also showcasing animals waiting for their forever homes.

Meet MacKenzie Spooner. She has been volunteering with Branford Fire Department since 2013 and was hired on as a full time firefighter/EMT in March 2018. She is currently enrolled in paramedic school. MacKenzie has also volunteered for Special Olympics Connecticut since 2000, mostly with the town of Cheshire. The Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter thanks MacKenzie and the Branford Fire Department for your service!

MacKenzie is pictured with one of the many kittens that need a home. Unfortunately every April starts the shelter’s kitten season and it always have many kittens awaiting their forever homes. Visit the shelter to see all of the babies there!

The Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, located at 749 East Main Street, Branford, serves the towns of Branford and North Branford. All of its dogs and cats have a wellness checkup; dogs and cats six months and older are spayed neutered and vaccinated before they are adopted. Cats are also tested for leukemia and AIDS and dogs are heartworm tested and microchipped. For information about adoption, donations, or volunteering, visit www.branfordanimalshelter.org or call Shelter Director Laura Burban at 203-315-4125 extension 198.
