In his Capstone Project, Guilford High School (GHS) senior Joran Nelson incorporated his learning from Electronics and Engineering Design, AP Physics, Jazz Band, and math courses, particularly Algebra 2, to build an electric guitar. His presentation culminated with the playing of his guitar. Nelson was among close to 65 GHS students who prepared and presented Capstone Projects this year on topics related to medicine, psychology, fashion, art, education, travel, business, gun control, engineering, digital media, music, and more.

The Capstone Project is intended to be an enriching activity that engages each student in a personalized learning experience and the opportunity to demonstrate and display the academic expectations in the GHS Mission Statement. A project can take many shapes and is driven by the student’s interest and abilities. A student working with a faculty advisor and mentor can design a single semester, half-credit project requiring a minimum of 60 hours of work or a full year, one-credit project requiring a minimum of 120 hours of work.
