Receives Republican Endorsement for 86th General Assembly District

June 18th, 2018: Deputy House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora (R – Durham, Guilford, North Branford and Wallingford) has announced his bid for reelection to the state house and has received the Republican endorsement for the 86th General Assembly district.

"I have watched Connecticut House Republicans grow from a small minority just a few years ago to a 72-member caucus that played a major role in developing last year's bipartisan budget," Rep. Candelora said. "The plan we passed in October, and this year's budget adjustment, were huge steps forward for the state. We made voting on union labor contracts mandatory, funded the Retired Teachers' Healthcare plan, restored funding to the Medicare Savings Program, and made other structural reforms that will help our economy recover. I am honored to have had the opportunity to contribute, and hope to continue serving my district next year."

In Hartford, Rep. Candelora has served on the Legislative Management, Finance, Revenue & Bonding, Judiciary, Public Health, General Law, and Screening Committees. Locally, he has been an active leader in the community whether it was coaching little league, serving as presidents of North Branford's Chamber of Commerce and North Branford Rotary, or as Deputy Mayor and Trustee for St. Ambrose Parish.

Outside of public service, Candelora works at Taconic Wire, a stitching wire manufacturing business, and operates the Connecticut Sportsplex, both family owned businesses. Prior to his current roles, he practiced municipal and transactional law in New Haven, and clerked for the Honorable Antoinette L. Dupont, former Chief Judge of the Appellate Court of Connecticut.

Candelora has used his education and experience to advance the quality of life for residents in his district and across the state. His leadership skills as Deputy House Republican Leader has inspired his colleagues to work in a bipartisan fashion to tackle some of Connecticut's most challenging issues, namely the state's fiscal crisis.

"It has been one of the greatest privileges of my professional life to serve the 86th district," Rep. Candelora added. "I am humbled by this great opportunity and look forward to serving my constituents for another term in the General Assembly."
