Local Educators Honored as Teachers of the Year

Alphonse Camera, art teacher at Joseph Melillo Middle School, has been selected as East Haven’s 2018 Grade 6 to 8 Level Teacher of the Year. Camera was also awarded as the East Haven District Teacher of the Year for 2018. He will be representing the East Haven Public School District at the Connecticut Teacher of the Year Program recognition ceremony that will be held this fall in Hartford.

Gina Racino, a reading consultant at Deer Run Elementary School, received the Pre-K to 5 Teacher of the Year award for the district. Racino was hired as a Title 1 literacy and math aide at D.C. Moore in 1994. In 1997, she served as a 2nd grade teacher at D.C. Moore Elementary School. Finally, in 2007, she became a reading consultant for Deer Run, Hays, and Overbrook schools, and currently serves students at Deer Run Elementary School.

Lindsay Wright was recognized as the 2018 East Haven High School Teacher of the Year. Wright has been teaching at East Haven High School for more than 15 years since starting there as a student teacher.
