JWMS Students Named State Debate Champions

On May 16, John Winthrop Middle School participated in the quarterfinals of the state debate tournament at the Connecticut Bar Association in New Britain. The final eight teams competed through three rounds debating the topic: “RESOLVED: The government should ensure that both public and private employees are free to express their political views without interference from their employers.” Teams just prepare and present both the affirmative and negative side of the debate. Ava Cunningham and Jordan Azzinaro became this year’s champions with Azzinaro winning the “Best Orator” award.
