Eagle Scout Project Benefits Clinton Police Department

Thomas Baker, a life scout with Troop 7 in Clinton sponsored by the First Church of Christ Congregation, is working on his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project. The eagle rank is the highest rank in scouting. His project will benefit the Town of Clinton, specifically the Clinton Police Department.

Baker’s goal is to replace the small Clinton Police sign on Route 1 with a more visible and prominent sign. The existing sign is becoming faded and beginning to rot. Baker came up with this idea after engaging a number of community members, including Police Chief Vincent DeMaio. Baker’s plan is to remove and replace the existing sign with a large boulder. A new Clinton Police sign and the Clinton Police shield will be attached to both sides of this boulder. Upgrades to the existing lighting will also be addressed so that the new sign will be prominently displayed.

Baker, who has been in scouting since the 2nd grade, is a sophomore at The Morgan School and is currently the senior patrol leader for Troop 7. He is a foil fencer on the Morgan fencing team and fences for both junior varsity and varsity. He recently placed fifth at the State Junior Varsity Tournament held in North Branford. He has also attended National Youth Leadership Training and is a role model for the younger scouts in Troop 7.

Baker hopes to have his project completed this summer and welcomes any financial support from the community. Checks can be made out to “Thomas Baker/Troop 7 Eagle Scout Project” and sent to his attention at 5 Bonny Lane in Clinton.
