In just a few weeks, the curtain will go up on brand-new opportunity for kids who love musical theatre and can't wait 'til high school to work with Branford High School (BHS) musical co-directors Colin Sheehan and Michael Martone.

Registration is open now for the inaugural grade 4 - 8 summer theatre camp of the new Shoreline Theatre Company, under the direction of Sheehan and Martone. Organized in coordination with Branford Public Schools and Branford Parks and Recreation, the camp meets at BHS and will culminate in a performance of Aladdin Jr. in July. The camp will run from Monday, June 18, through Wednesday, July 11, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. with lunch included.

Wondering if the camp is right for your child? Sheehan says it's a great opportunity not only for youngsters to perform in Aladdin, but to learn skills involved in musical production including singing, dancing, sets, costumes, tech and more.

"Each camper will learn what it takes to build a musical from the ground up," said Sheehan.

Shortly following stellar 2018 spring musical performances of "The Little Mermaid" at Walsh Intermediate School and "Shrek: The Musical" at BHS, Branford Superintendent of Schools Hamlet Hernandez heartily supported the launch of Shoreline Theatre Company under the guidance of Sheehan and Martone.

"As a school district, we value and recognize the importance of offering opportunities in the arts to children," said Hernandez. "Our vision is to make the arts part of every child's school experience."

Earlier this spring, the Shoreline Theatre Company also announced the debut of its high school/adult summer production, Hairspray, with performances set for June 29 and June 30 in the Cathyann Roding Auditorium at BHS. Auditions for the production, held at Guilford High School, drew talent from across the shoreline to create a charismatic, 60-member cast of players hailing from 10 towns. General admission tickets for performances, $10, can be reserved now by emailing ShorelineTheatreCompany@gmail.com

Shoreline Theatre Company's summer youth theatre camp will be held between June 18 - July 11 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. (lunch included) at Branford High School, 185 East Main St.; cost per child, $450.
