State Police Identify Body Found in Chester


State Police have identified the body found on May 8 in the area of Chester-Hadlyme Ferry Landing.

Acording to police, the deceased was identified at Steven Detoro, 56, of Portland. Detoro had been missing since May 2017.

Police from Troop F in Westbrook were dispatched to Chester Ferry on May 8 at 10:13 a.m. after receiving word that a body had been recovered, and police closed access to nearby Deep River Landing.

Detectives from the Eastern District Major Crime unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted the post-mortem examination to assist in providing positive identification and to determine the cause of death.

There is no criminal aspect, according to police.
