Police Recover Body from Connecticut River Near Deep River

Connecticut State Police are investigating after a body was discovered in the Connecticut River this morning. The first reports said the body was spotted by crews on the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry shortly after 10 a.m. just north of Deep River Landing.

The body has been recovered and police are now waiting on the medical examiner at Deep River Landing.

According to a press release from the state police, troopers from Troop F in Westbrook were dispatched to the area of the Chester Ferry at 10:13 a.m. Detectives from the Eastern District Major Crime unit responded to the scene and have assumed the investigation.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will be conducting a post-mortem examination to assist in providing positive identification and to detrmine the cause of death. Police have determined that there is no immediate threat to the community.

The landing, which has a boat ramp and docking facilities, has been closed to the public.
