A few weeks ago Madison Police Officer Christopher Dubé responded to a 911 call in town. What could have been a routine stop quickly became a feel-good story.

Resident Colin Wright, 17, called 911 a few weeks ago because he had broken one of his games. According to his mother, Christine Wright, Colin is autistic and therefore breaking a toy or a game can seem like an emergency.

Dubé responded to the call and came to the Wright’s home. Christine Wright said officer Dubé was one of “the most understanding officers” she’s ever met and said in a Facebook post that “anyone who knows autism knows when our kids get upset it can be difficult to talk them of the cliff.”

Beyond his exceptional response to the call, Wright said Dubé went above and beyond, coming back with a gift for her son.

“A week later the officer came back out to our house and brought Colin a new game. He even put batteries in it to make sure it was working,” she said.

On April 12 Christine and Colin Wright stopped by the Madison Police Department to give Dubé a thank you card Colin had made. Dubé greeted Colin with a high five.

“I just love doing this kind of stuff,” Dubé said later.
