New Half Marathon Race in Clinton

Road racers of Clinton should lace up their sneakers and beginning training, with the town preparing to host a half marathon race that will raise money from Families Helping Families on Sunday, Oct. 7.

Approval for The Aegis Wealth Partners Vineyard Half Marathon at Chamard Vineyards was granted by the Board of Selectmen in February.

Event Chairman and Aegis Wealth Partners Senior Partner Ray Bovich said he believes the event, which was previously held in Guilford, will be the only race in a vineyard in Connecticut.

“We were looking for better support and a better location. The vineyard was one of the most attractive reasons for selecting Clinton,” he said.”I grew up in Clinton and I’m excited to show off my hometown. I can’t tell you how excited we are to bring this to town.”

Selectman Phil Sengle echoed this sentiment.

“Anything we can do to bring people to Clinton besides the mall is a good thing,” he said.

Bovich estimated 1,100 to 1,200 racers will line up for the event. The race will come at no cost to the town, and a portion of proceeds will be donated to the Families Helping Families charity. Former first selectman Willie Fritz, who is a coworker of Bovich’s, recommended working with FHF.

“One thing I find fascinating is the demographic of runners is very well educated. They’re upper middle class, and you can attract their business. It could be a real economic boon,” Bovich said.

Organized by JB Sports LLC, Aegis Wealth Partners will field volunteers to help get runners prepared, hand out water, and give people directions on the race course, Bovich explained. Prior to the event, organizers will also deliver postcards to surrounding residences with race details and recommendations, such as keeping pets inside.

The Aegis Wealth Partners Vineyard Half Marathon is at Chamard Vineyards, 115 Cow Hill Road, Clinton on Sunday, Oct. 7. The cost is $65 including entrance to the race, a ticket for a glass of wine for people 21 years and older, and a basket of bread and cheese.
