Regional School District 17 and Schools Recognized for High Performance

Regional School District 17 was ranked 19th in the state in 2016-’17 for overall performance amidst a field of historically high performing school districts. In addition, three of five Regional School District 17 schools—Burr District Elementary School, Haddam Elementary School, and Haddam-Killingworth High School—were recognized by the Connecticut State Department of Education as Schools of Distinction based upon the high performance of students. Schools of Distinction are those in the top 10 percent in the state with respect to the State Accountability Index as determined by Connecticut’s Next Generation Accountability System. Burr District and Haddam Elementary schools were 2 of 59 elementary schools and Haddam-Killingworth High was one of only six high schools in the state to receive this recognition in 2016-’17. Both Burr District Elementary School and Haddam Elementary School have received this honor for two years in a row.

Connecticut’s Next Generation Accountability System consists of a set of 12 indicators designed to give a comprehensive picture of how schools and students are performing and is designed to help the state measure district and school success toward the goal of providing every student with a quality education that prepares him or her for success. Each school receives a score, an Accountability Index, calculated using a formula that incorporates the accountability system indicators.
