Christine Palm Announces Campaign for 36th District State Rep

More than 80 citizens turned out on Feb. 18 to hear from Christine Palm (D), who has declared her intention to run for state representative in the 36th Assembly District of Chester, Deep River, Essex, and Haddam.

Palm, of Chester, launched her campaign kick-off in Chester’s Meeting House, talking about the need for better representation for our towns in Hartford, and her commitment to advocate for what’s important to our district.

Palm told the crowd she’ll fight for economic security for all working families; common-sense fiscal policies that ensure our towns’ education and infrastructure needs; incentives for small businesses; protection of the lower river valley environment, local history, and the quality of our education; enhanced rights for women and marginalized communities; and community-based initiatives that allow our seniors to stay in their homes.

Palm told the enthusiastic crowd that in the few short weeks since announcing her intent to run, she has experienced a remarkable new energy that’s challenging the myth that what’s good for human beings is automatically bad for business.

“I’m hearing from all of you, and from people throughout our four towns, that they’re ready to turn outrage into action for the good of all,” Pam said. “Economic success should not be built on the backs of our young, our working families, or our small businesses. We need to protect and enhance women’s rights, and we need to ensure that all the progress we’ve made in protecting our beautiful region’s natural resources do not get rolled back.”

Palm, whose campaign theme is “Who Leads Matters,” was introduced by her son James Golden, education director of the Mark Twain House in Hartford, and Theresa Govert, state representative candidate in the 34th District. Chester Democratic Town Committee Chair Lori Ann Clymas closed the brief presentations by urging the crowd to be active and citing the importance of voting.

Palm, who intends to participate in the Citizens’ Election Program “clean elections” fund, raised nearly half her qualifying amount.
