A Year After the Fire, Cristy’s Madison Reopens

After nearly a year of waiting, Madison residents once again have easy access to those famous pancakes. On Feb. 19, Cristy’s Madison Restaurant and Bar reopened after a fire shut the restaurant down in February 2017.

Cristy’s shared the news on Facebook and the post quickly generated warm responses from Madison and shoreline residents.

“We are excited to announce that we are officially OPEN today!!!! Come on down and enjoy our classic favorites, as well as some new menu items! We are cash only today, but will be accepting credit cards tomorrow. Thank you to all of our loyal customers and we look forward to seeing you!”

On Feb. 26, 2017, a structure fire was reported at Cristy’s Madison Restaurant and Bar at approximately 10:30 p.m. The flames caused significant damage to the back of the building.

Firefighters from Madison Hose Co. No.1, North Madison, Killingworth, Clinton, and Guilford responded to the call. North Madison Volunteer Fire Company Chief Donnie MacMillan said smoke and flames could be seen coming from the building when crews arrived on scene.

Madison Hose Co. No. 1 Chief Robert Kyttle said firefighters were on the scene for close to three hours after an automatic alarm triggered the call. Kyttle said the fire started in the kitchen.

“The entire kitchen was heavily damaged,” he said. “They [the firefighters] cut some holes in the roof for ventilation so there was some damage from working there and there was some exterior damage as well from saws and trying to get in.”

No one was in the building when firefighters arrived on scene.
