North Haven PD Warns of Latest Telephone Scam

Norh Haven Police have issued a warning about the latest telephone scam that has been hitting shoreline residents. Police urged residents to contact police should they receive one of these calls.

The following warning from the NHPD was posted on the department's Facebook page:

"A suspect has been calling parents, claiming their child has been involved in a motor vehicle accident. The suspect states the child attempted to contact police, but the driver of the other car is wanted for murder, so he took the child and wants to kill him/her.

The suspect will claim that if you provide money for the damage to the car, your child will be released unharmed. The suspect will tell you to go to the bank, and he will direct you from there where to bring the money.

During these calls, you may hear what sounds like your child calling for help in the background. The calls are very realistic, and the suspect is hoping your emotions will cloud your best judgement.

So far, potential victims have been able to contact their children prior to the exchange of money. If you receive a call similar to this, document the incoming phone number and contact police."
