02/14/2018 11:01 PMThe annual Post #61 American Legion Oratory Contest was held at Valley Regional High School on Jan. 31. Participants had to write and present without notes an 8- to 10-minute speech on the rights and responsibilities of a citizen on some aspect of the Constitution. In addition, one of four articles or amendments were chosen and had to be explained in three to five minutes.
Valley’s participants included Sophie Spaner, Lindsey Madden, Maeve Collins, and Katie Morrissey, who placed second, and Connor Riordan, who won the oratory. Riordan moved on to the next level of competition on Feb. 10, which was held at the Westbrook Library at 1 p.m.
