A house fire in an Old Saybrook home was contained on Sunday, Feb. 11 after firefighters received assistance from Eversource officials.

Old Saybrook firefighters were dispatched to a Fordham Trail home at 11:54 a.m. after receiving the report of a housefire from a homeowner.

The fire was located in the basement, on the exterior, and in the first floor wall. Electrical service to the home was involved in the fire which limited firefighting efforts temporarily. Eversource officials were able to shut off power to a section of town within minutes of receiving the request from fire officials.

Residents in the area were without power for 30 minutes while firefighters worked to contain the fire. Once the home was isolated from the power system, Eversource restored power.

Old Saybrook Fire responded with 43 firefighters while receiving aid from the Essex Fire Department with an engine, ladder, and rescue. Old Saybrook Ambulance provided two ambulances, and paramedics from Middlesex Hospital were on scene. Clinton Fire Department's Rapid Intervention Team for Firefighter Safety and Rescue also responded. The Westbrook Fire Department covered the Old Saybrook Fire Headquarters.
