As Guilford works to understand the tragic event on Jan. 31 that claimed the life of 15-year-old Guilford High School freshman Ethan Song, community members have organized a vigil on Friday, Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m. on the Guilford Green.

News of the vigil was shared on Facebook. A post from Tamara Shorr on the Facebook Page Simply Guilford, reads:

"There will be a candlelight memorial in honor of Ethan Song on Friday February 2, 2018 at 6:30 on the Guilford Green.

"Please come together this evening to celebrate a life taken too young.

"Together as a community, we can face the incomprehensible in our attempt to achieve a sense of peace and serenity."

A later post on Facebook said the vigil begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m. The vigil will include the tolling of the church bells, opening remarks, a prayer, and remarks from select students.

Residents are now asked not to bring their own candles and that a parent or guardian attends with all high school age or younger children.

Following the vigil, the First Congregational Church will be open until 8 p.m. for gathering and counseling.
