Valley Regional High School sent three teams to compete in this year’s Mock Trial sponsored by Civics First CT. Competing in New Haven and Middletown Superior courts, the teams had to present both Prosecution and Defense of this year’s case. The case dealt with Captain Storm, who took four members of the Way family on an outing and ended up with the boat sinking from a fire and only one Way member surviving. The case was initially closed, but eight years later reopened because the surviving Way child regained some repressed memories that led to the arrest of Captain Storm for murder.

The next rounds of the trial will take place in January and February, with the final winning team being invited to the National Mock Trial tournament, which this year will be held in Reno, Nevada, in mid-May.
