Iino: Gifts of Time, Energy, and Wisdom

As 2017 comes to a close, I’d like to thank all the Killingworth men and women who served on town boards, commissions, and committees this year. Scores of town citizens every year take on, without compensation, the myriad tasks required to keep Killingworth running the way we want it to. Whether they are elected or appointed, they give their time, energy, and wisdom to the community, and we are incredibly fortunate to have them.

If you are interested in volunteering yourself, please email me (ciino@townofkillingworth.com) or give me a call (860-663-1765, x501). We currently have openings on several committees with diverse charges. For example, the Open Space Committee identifies properties within the town that might be preserved as, or restored to, open space and works with owners and others to find ways to protect them. The Energy Task Force promotes energy efficient and sustainable practices, operations, and patterns of development for the Town of Killingworth and its residents. The Emergency Management Committee plans and prepares for town-wide emergencies and leads response efforts.

New committees are likely to be formed in the coming year, and a variety of openings regularly arise, so please contact me and let me know of whatever interests you have.

Please note: the Transfer Station will be open on Saturday, Dec. 24, during normal hours (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) but closed on Tuesday, Dec. 26.

In the coming weeks, the town will be removing excessive road curve signage that was installed in recent months under a federal program. If you wish to report a particularly egregious example, please contact the selectmen’s office.

Winter parking restrictions are in effect until April 15: parking on public roads is prohibited from midnight to 6 a.m. In the event of a snowstorm, parking on public roads is prohibited at all hours. Please observe these restrictions; they allow us to clear the roads effectively and safely.

I wish everyone the happiest of holidays.
