PZC Denies North Haven Trucking Application

The Planning & Zoning Commission (PZC) denied an application by Old Dominion Freight Line (ODFL) that would have seen a trucking facility come to 300 Elm Street.

A reason for the denial on Dec. 4 was that PZC members felt that lowering a portion of Sackett Point Road, which was a condition of the project that would allow trucks to pass underneath a bridge for easier access to Universal Drive and I-91, would create a potentially hazardous flooding situation as it’s located in a flood zone.

PZC Chairman Vern Carlson added that lowering the road would also mean more trucks would then be able to use that route, leading to more truck traffic overall, not just from ODFL. Members also had concerns about trucks being able to make the turn from Universal Drive to Sackett Point Road.
