Augliera Moving in has Positive Effect on East Haven

Anthony Augliera Moving, Storage & Theatrical Transfer, which has been in business for more than 100 years, recently moved its operation from its longtime home in West Haven to East Haven’s industrial park on Commerce Street.

The company now occupies a 45,000 square-foot building in the industrial park, and an additional 12,000 square-foot building has been built for the company’s truck and equipment maintenance.

Also, a 40,000 square-foot addition to the larger existing building is being planned for the future. All together, there will be about 97,000 square feet of buildings on the roughly 10-acre property it now occupies. The company also has a fleet of tractors, trailers, and moving trucks that are in the process of being registered in East Haven.

Director of Economic Development Sal Brancati said that Augliera coming in and expanding will have a “big impact” on revenue in the town. Right now, he said the company is paying about $46,000 in taxes on the existing facility, but that doesn’t include the personal property tax, which applies to items like the truck fleet.

Brancati said the revenue estimate once everything is ready will be about $75,000, and that doesn’t include the future 40,000 square foot addition, which will be assessed and taxed whenever it’s completed. He said once everything is completed, he thinks Augliera will be one of the major taxpayers in town.

Augliera Director of Marketing Ron Gagliardi said that the company has done business with other businesses in the industrial park, and is interested in developing additional business relationships with tenants there. Gagliardi said those businesses include Viglione Heating & Cooling, Forbes Fuel, and Tek-Motive (a brake pad company).

“So the companies in the park talk to one another, which we think is a great thing,” Brancati said, “There’s a synergy there to have them working together, supporting one another...[It] makes the whole park that much stronger.”

The East Haven Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the company on Oct. 26, and company owner and President Robert Augliera said at the ceremony that the town has been extremely receptive to the business coming in.
