The Dance Corner of Killingworth presented a dance concert and community day of dance on Oct. 14 and 15 to benefit Child Life at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, and to promote professional Connecticut-based dance companies in their community.

The “Dancing from the Heart” concert featured dance performances from Connecticut dance companies, including Sonia Plumb Dance, Vivid Ballet, Ballroom Dancin’ Fools, River Valley Dance Project, and Moxie Dance. Students from The Dance Corner Company also performed. All proceeds from the concert, $2,100, were donated to the Child Life Department at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital.

Child Life at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital helps children cope with the adjustments of being in a hospital by providing a variety of play experiences. These activities help both children and families gain a greater understanding of medical procedures, which helps reduce stress and fear of the unknown. Money raised by this concert will directly benefit pediatric patients at Yale.

In addition to the performance, The Dance Corner held a Child Life Wish List supply drive at its studio in conjunction with a Community Day of Dance on Oct. 15. Artists from the “Dancing from the Heart” concert taught master classes in ballet, modern dance, and ballroom dance to local students. All of the artists donated their teaching fees, a total of $400, to Child Life. In addition, more than 300 Wish List supplies were collected for Child Life, including craft supplies, gift cards, self-care items, and toys. In total, $2,500 in cash and an estimated $2,000 in supply and gift card donations were raised to benefit Child Life at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital.

The Dance Corner staff and students are currently preparing for their second charitable concert of the season. The Winter Follies will be presented at the Clinton Town Hall auditorium on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $10 or a donation of a new, unwrapped toy for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. Last year, more than 250 toys were collected for children in need. Tickets are available at the door.
