On Nov. 11, two teams from John Winthrop Middle School attended the “Bash at the Beach” Lego robotics competition at Lyme-Old Lyme High School, one of several regional competitions throughout the state. Twenty-five teams, mostly from eastern Connecticut, presented their projects on the issues the world is facing with water. They also ran their robots on a challenge field, accumulating points for missions completed.

This year, the basic theme was “Hydro Dynamics.” Students researched the ways people find, transport, use, and dispose of water in order to meet their specific needs. Teams then built their Lego robot to complete tasks relating to water, including fixing a broken pipe, delivering water to a well, and triggering a rain cloud to produce rain.
