The North Haven Garden Club has announced that member Cindy Golia was the recipient of the Beacon Award for 2017. Every year, Shore Publishing, which publishes The Courier along with zip06.com and several other shoreline weekly newspapers, recognizes 15 volunteers across the shoreline “who selflessly step up to help the shoreline community’s promise of a place of well being, opportunity, and safety for all.” She was nominated for this award and out of numerous nominations, their committee selected her as one of the winners. Cindy and the other award recipients were honored at a gala event on Oct. 4 at Water’s Edge Resort and Spa in Westbrook. Greeting the guests was a red carpet with 15 stars featuring each winner’s name.. Each winner received a corsage or boutonnière. The event featured cocktails, dinner, music, raffle, and video presentation. In addition, Cindy received a swag bag full of items donated by local businesses as a thank you gift, along with an etched vase filled with flowers, and an official citation from the State of Connecticut General Assembly, Office of Senator Ted Kennedy, who gave a small speech to the attendees.
