Erika Santino-Santiago Takes Final East Haven Board of Education Seat

A recount took place on Nov. 11 after the municipal elections that showed a 3,072-3,072 tie between Board of Education (BOE) candidates Dominic Milano and Erika Santino-Santiago, and it has been confirmed that Santino-Santiago will take the seat.

The Nov. 11 recount was triggered when the two Democratic candidates were within votes 20 of each other. Prior to the recount, the tally was Erika Santino-Santiago: 3,064 votes and Dominic Milano: 3,066 votes.

Santino-Santiago was present for the BOE inauguration ceremony on Nov. 18, and the Town Clerk’s office confirmed it had received Milano’s concession.

Democratic Town Committee (DTC) Chairman Noreen Clough said that both candidates mutually agreed to let a vote by the DTC executive board decide who would take the seat. That meeting took place on Nov. 16, and Santino-Santiago was declared the winner.
