Clinton PD: Arrest Made in Fatal May Accident

Clinton Police have arrested a Middletown woman following a lengthy investigation into a fatal motor vehicle accident that occured on May 4.

Police served an arrest warrant on Diedre Koziel, 49, of Middletown, on Thursday, Nov. 16. The warrant was issued by Middlesex Superior Court.

According to police, Koziel had been traveling southbound on Route 81 in Clinton on May 4 when she struck a vehicle traveling in the northbound lane head-on. The collision occured in the northbound lane. The driver of the northbound vehicle, Andrew Asermely, 60, of Killingworth, was killed.

Koziel has been charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, distracted driving while committing a moving violation, failure to drive in the proper lane, and weapons in a motor vehicle. She was held on a $75,000 court set bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at Middlesex Superior Court on Nov. 17.
