Iino: A Tribute to Civic Engagement

Next week, for the first time in more than a decade, Fred Dudek will not be on the Killingworth Board of Selectmen. I have served with Fred for eight years, and it has been a pleasure. Fred brought to our meetings his long knowledge of the history of our town—written and unwritten; his commitment to the good of the town; and his respectful, positive approach to the position. Selectman Lou Annino, Jr. joins me in saying that we have had a most constructive, effective, and enjoyable board. Fred’s service as a selectman and in so many other roles deserves Killingworth’s utmost gratitude.

I welcome Nancy Gorski to the Board of Selectmen. Nancy has chaired the Board of Finance for the last two years, and we have had a highly productive relationship that I have every expectation of continuing.

Thanks to all the candidates who stepped up to run for office this fall, and to the voters who came to the polls, even in the pouring rain. It’s a tribute to the civic engagement of our citizens that nearly 50 percent of us turned out for this local election.

I’d also like to thank our registrars of voters, Lauren Blaha and Mary Solera, and their intrepid band of poll workers for their dedication to running a scrupulously clean election in which we can all have confidence.
