11/09/2017 11:00 PMOn Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m., town officials and the Archdiocese of Hartford Catholic Cemeteries Association will be at the North Haven Town Green to dedicate a plot of land where a new monument will go to honor veterans that have served.
Though the monument isn’t ready yet, First Selectman Michael Freda said there will be architectural drawings of what the monument will look like as well as the names of 55 North Haven residents who will be on it. The monument is for post-Vietnam veterans.
Chris Radlicz, family service director for the cemeteries association, said a big part of what they do is make sure those that have served get some sort of recognition on both Veteran’s and Memorial days.
The primary purpose of the association is to serve the burial needs of all Catholics in accordance with Canon Law, and it administers and manages the complete operations for 30 Catholic cemeteries in the state, including All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
The reason for the association’s involvement is twofold: to honor those that served and also to have more presence in the community. Radlicz said he wants people to know the association wants to be a part of the community so families know where to turn if they need help with burial needs.
He said the dedication is something positive for the community, and he’s very excited about being involved with it. The association will also be sponsoring a reception with refreshments at the American Legion across from the green after the dedication.
The association will offer flags at the cemeteries they manage (including All Saints) so families can place them on the graves of their loved ones who served on Veteran’s Day.
