The 2017 Eastern States Exposition FFA Star awards were presented on Sept. 16 on 4-H/FFA Day at The Big E in West Springfield, Massachusetts. The FFA Stars come from throughout the Eastern FFA Region of 18 states. Competitors who won their titles in their respective states were evaluated on their outstanding achievements in agriculture, leadership skills, and scholastic rank.

Drew Brockett Cappelli of Guilford won the award for Star Agri Placement. In Agri Placement, students perform paid or unpaid work for a farm or agribusiness, and is one of the options for the FFA’s required Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). Cappelli won the Star award for having completed the best Agri Placement SAE program and demonstrated excellent leadership skills. He completed his Agri Placement program at his family’s Tripledale Farm in Guilford raising donkeys, llamas, goats, and sheep; a dairy farm in northern New York; a hay operation in Maine; a horse farm in Wallingford; and a landscaping company in North Branford. Since June 2016, Cappelli has been employed by Orrson Custom Farming, a custom silage operation based in Ohio, traveling from Georgia to Michigan harvesting corn silage and haylage.
