With Cleary's Retirement, Two New Candidates Vie for Branford Tax Collector

Shown here at Zip06/The Sound's 2017 Election Guide, Branford's Tax Collector candidates are Roberta Gill-Brooks (D) and Sandra Kraus (R).

Since 2005, Branford has re-elected the same person, Joanne Cleary, to serve consecutive two-year terms as Tax Collector. That will change on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 7, when one of two new candidates will be elected to the post.

Cleary, a Democrat, announced this summer she would retire at the conclusion of the current term. She's served at the elective post for the past 12 years and in the most recent Branford municipal elections (2013 and 2015) was cross-endorsed by both town political committees.

Branford's 2017 Tax Collector candidates, each endorsed by their respective political committees, are Democrat Roberta Gill-Brooks and Republican Sandra Kraus.

To learn more about them, information provided by each candidate is available to reveiw now at Zip06/The Sound's 2017 online Election Guide. Each candidate has provided biographical and qualification information including present occupation, education, family, civic involvement, elected offices or appointments and other government service. They've also supplied informative answers on what qualifications make them the best person for the job, what their top three priorities will be in the coming term, as well as their response to the question, "What else do voters need to know about you?"
