Madison Police Search for Armed Robbery Suspect

One suspect in the armed robbery earlier Friday has been apprehended, according to a tweet from Madison police on Twitter just before 2 p.m. But another suspect was still being sought as of late Friday afternoon. Police said the second suspect may have left the area by car, but that they were not sure about that. See our related story for additional details.

State police said on Facebook at 2:30 p.m. a second suspect was being sought:

"UPDATE (October 13, 2017 2:30 p.m.): One suspect in custody, troopers still seek second suspect.

BOLO for two black male suspects following 11:30 a.m. armed robbery in Denny's parking lot located at 28 Flat Rock Place, Westbrook.

Male suspects last seen in the area of the I-95 southbound Madison rest area. No further descriptions yet.

Troopers, police officers and K9 teams searching the area.

Call 911 with any info or text TIP711 with any information to 274637. All calls and texts will be kept confidential."

Madison residents are asked to stay alert as state and local police search for an armed robbery suspect around I-95.

Madison police via twitter identified the suspect as a black male wearing jeans and a white hoodie. Residents are instructed not to approach the suspect if spotted and to call 911.

Madison First Selectman Tom Banisch said Friday afternoon that the town campus, which includes town offices, a gym, the police department, and playing fields was on lockdown.

"We are waiting to hear from [Madison Police Chief] Jack [Drumm]. Right now this is just a precaution," he said.

Helicopters were also spotted in the area.

Connecticut State Police said via a Facebook post that officers are looking for two black male suspects after an armed robbery in a Denny's parking lot in Westbrook at 11:30 a.m. A spokesman from state police Troop F, based in Westbrook, declined to comment, saying that the investigation was still in progress, and that police officers are "still working it."

Police said troopers, officers, and K-9 teams are searching the area of the I-95 southbound Madison rest area. Eyewitness accouts say there are between 15 and 30 officers that look like they are donning SWAT gear near the wooded area near the rest stop. They said that the entrance onto the rest stop area has been blocked off by police, but that traffic is still flowing on I-95 south.

Westbrook school officials said Friday afternoon that they had temporarily suspended all outside activities earlier in the day, after reports of the incident, but that they were subsequently informed that the focus of the search had moved on to Madison, and so outside activities were resumed.

Madison Police released a statement on Twitter saying "Madison Police are searching near I-95 for an armed robbery suspect.  Blk male jeans white hoodie.  Call 911 if seen. Do not approach."

Connecticut State Police released this statement on Twitter: "BOLO 2 blk male suspects 10/13 1130am Westbrook Denny's parking lot armed robbery. Males last seen I95 sb Madison rest area. Call 911 w/info."

BOLO generally is an acronym for be on the lookout.
