At the August meeting of the Daytime Gardeners, club members and guests were treated to a slide show by club president Sally Brockett and to a demonstration on arranging flowers in the ikebana style presented by flower show judge Helen Nado. The group then used a variety of materials to create their individual arrangements in assorted containers.

Ikebana is the nature-based Japanese art form of arranging a few flowers and branches, expressing asymmetry and harmony. Ancient rules and principles were established over its long history, and priests were the first to create ikebana as offerings in their shrines. Originally, only branches were used in the designs. Later, flowers were included in the arrangements.

Daytime Gardeners of North Haven is actively seeking new members to join its many projects and garden tours. Meetings, including programs, are held the fourth Tuesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. to noon. For more information, call Brenda at 203-239-1557. The club is a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of CT, Inc. and National Garden Clubs, Inc.
