Thirteen lucky dogs found new homes at Operation Animal Freedom, a pet adoption and animal awareness event at the North Haven Fairgrounds on Sept. 23 and 24.

Organizer Val Quieroga said that, in addition to the 13 dogs adopted at the event, many other people completed adoption applications. He said about 400 people came through the fairgrounds on the first day, and that organizers were pleases with the first ever Operation Animal Freedom.

Bikers Against Animal Cruelty and Where Is The Love animal rescue group were two groups that attended and Quieroga said both were a huge help and support. He said the vendors that were there over the weekend were great as well.

Quieroga loves helping animals and was pleased to be involved with a rescue event. In the future, organizers will consider a one-day event, or a couple of one-day events at different times in the years, he said.
