Annually, Columbiette Auxilliary #2968 members collect personal care items from three area churches (St. Mary’s of the Visitation in Clinton, St. John’s Church in Old Saybrook, and Christ the King Church in Old Lyme) to be put into adult-sized shoe boxes that are distributed to the homeless in the Norwich Diocese area. These “treasure boxes” are personalized for a man, woman, child, toddler, or baby and delivered to the Norwich Catholic Charities for distribution to those in need in New London, Norwich, and Groton. This year, the Columbiettes hit the record number of 171 assembled treasure boxes. The Columbiettes are a Catholic service organization that meets monthly at St. John’s Church in Old Saybrook.
