A Time to Celebrate: A Note from the Publisher

Greetings from Shore!

Fall will officially be here on Friday. This time of year is exciting for us because in just a couple of weeks, we’ll be honoring 15 locals who have made a big difference in our communities. The fifth annual Beacon Awards will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Water’s Edge Resort in Westbrook.

We are quickly approaching our ticket deadline of Wednesday, Sept. 27, and tickets can be purchased at www.beaconawardsct.com. If you know one of these 15 wonderful people, you’ll know why you should consider attending this elegant gala evening! This year’s awardees are David Allen, Mary Cacace, Connie Fusco, Cindy Golia, Bill Hawke, Ray Hayes, Bo Huhn, Lynda Hunnicutt, Sue Kruczek, Renée McIntyre, Susan Melchior, Tom ODell, Jackie St. Peter, Jeff Vailette, and Hedy Watrous.

The mission of the Beacon Awards is to recognize individuals who have selflessly stepped up to help fulfill the shoreline community’s promise as a place of opportunity, wellbeing, and safety for all. This year, I had the honor of helping our video producer, Chris Dobbins, interview some of our winners on camera for the short movie that we produce to show at the event. I started at this company as a reporter, and it brought me right back to my favorite part of what we do—learning about our community and the people within, and then sharing those remarkable stories with you.

The Beacon Awards are a chance for you to witness and celebrate the generosity of 15 wonderful individuals from across our shoreline. The event is heartwarming, tear-jerking, and filled with laughter. Water’s Edge treats our winners and our guests to a phenomenal dinner while we get to dote on some truly remarkable people. I hope you can join us.

Congratulations to our 2017 Beacon Award winners!
