08/30/2017 09:35 AMClinton Republicans and Democrats will both have a chance to refine their choice of candidates for the November municipal elections at the primaries on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
Clinton Democrats Lynn Pinder, Willie Fritz, and Leah Saunders are seeking the nominations for first selectmen, selectman, and Board of Finance respectively. Democratic Town Committee-endorsed candidates include Christine Goupil for first selectman, Mike Guerra and Jack Scherban for selectman, and John Olsen, Dana Onofrio, and Michael Smith for Board of Finance. Voters can select a single first selectman candidate, two selectmen candidates, and three Board of Finance candidates.
Republican Town Committee-endorsed candidates and incumbents First Selectman Bruce Farmer and selectmen Carol Walter and John Giannotti face challenges from first selectman candidate Kirk Carr and selectman candidate Phil Sengle. Voters can select a single first selectman candidate and two selectmen candidates. Republicans also have a choice for the 33rd Probate District candidate—Anselmo Delia or Kevin Hecht.
Voters are only eligible to vote for the candidates of the party for which they are registered. While it’s too late for a resident that is already registered with one party to switch to another, unregistered voters still have time to register with either party to vote in the primary. Absentee ballots are available as well.
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 12 in the Green Room at Town Hall.
The Morgan Political Club will host a Board of Selectmen candidates forum on Thursday, Sept. 7. The event will run from 6:30 to 8. Farmer declined, citing a scheduling conflict; Carr, Goupil, and Pinder have said they will attend.
