Summer Fairs and Festivals Take Center Stage


Saint George Carnival took place Wednesday - Saturday with rides, games, foods, the famous Cake Booth, raffle, and the giant White Elephant tag sale. Victoria Ciardello descends the climbing wall after hitting the buzzer at the top.

Back to school may be looming around the next corner but that doesn't mean summer is over. A number of events are taking place this weekend up and down the shoreline.

St. George Carnival

The Saint George Carnival in Guilford runs through Saturday, Aug. 12 at the church, 33 Whitfield Street, Guilford. The carnival is free and open Friday, Aug. 11 and Saturday, Aug. 12 from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Wristbands for carnival rides are available, and the carnival features food, the famous Cake Booth, a cash raffle, face painting, a white elephant tag sale, rides, and more. Woofstock

Woofstock returns to the Branford Green for a day of peace and music on Saturday, Aug. 12 from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festival features a "woofwalk", live music, a dog costume contest, food trucks, raffles, children's activities, and more. Bluefish 5K

The 20th annual Steward's Ace Hardware Bluefish 5K Road Race organized by the Clinton Chamber of Commerce and Shoreline Community Women, Inc is on Saturday, Aug. 12 and more than 400 runners are expected to participate. The 5K race course begins and ends at the Jared Eliot Middle School, 69 Fairy Dell Road, Clinton. Race day registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and the race starts at 9 a.m. Registration is $30. Shoreline Wine Festival

Bishop's Orchards Winery hosts the annual Shoreline Wine Festival on Saturday, Aug. 12 from noon to 7 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 13 from noon to 6 p.m. The festival includes a tour of Bishop's Orchards winery, numerous local wines and wine experts, live music, entertainment, local vendors and artisans, and more. Peach and Chowder Festival

The Church of Christ Congregational, 192 Thimble Islands Road, Stony Creek, holds its annual Peach and Chowder Festival on Saturday, Aug. 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the front lawn. The event features homemade peach shortcake topped with freshly-whipped cream, clam or corn chowder, hamburgers, hotdogs, and beverages. There will also be a silent auction. 64th annual Clinton Summer Fair

The First Church of Christ, Route 1, Clinton, hosts its annual Clinton Summer Fair on Friday, Aug. 11 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 12 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The fair features handcrafts exhibits, live music, kids activities, church crafts, a silent auction, indoor and outdoor tag sales, and more. 9th annual Beach Jam for Breast Cancer

The Westbrook Elks hosts the 9th annual Beach Jam for Breast Cancer on Saturday, Aug. 12 from 1 to 9 p.m. at the Westbrook Elks Lodge, 142 Seaside Avenue, Westbrook. Tickets are $30 per person; children 12 and under are free. The event is a benefit for Breast Cancer Patient Care Services at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven and Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center.
