The NEW 34th Charitable Corporation is proud to have awarded four $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors from the Class of 2017, including North Haven High School graduate Hope Marino. Community service was the main criteria used for choosing the scholarship recipients. Additionally, the recipients must be living in and graduating from a high school (public or private) in Connecticut’s 34th Senatorial District.

Marino spent numerous hours in service to her local community in a wide variety of activities, some of which included Earth Day/Green Day; collecting and fundraising to acquire nonperishable food items for those in need; obtaining gifts, holiday turkeys, and daily toiletries for the Community Service Department; collecting books and school supplies for the elementary schools; helping raise money for the Connecticut branch of the Nature Conservancy; volunteering with children aged 3 to 12 during summer programs; and being the vice-president of Project Green Club at NHHS.

The NEW 34th Charitable Corporation intends to continue this scholarship program in the future.
