Killingworth Democrats Announce Slate for Nov. 7

The Killingworth Democratic Town Committee (DTC) has nominated an outstanding slate of candidates for the Nov. 7 municipal elections.

At the top of the slate are First Selectman Cathy Iino and Selectman Lou Annino, Jr., who have done such an outstanding job of improving town governance. They’ve kept a tight rein on taxes while maintaining our quality of life.

Town Clerk Dawn Mooney is also on the DTC ticket. Her training, skill, and friendly demeanor make her the ideal candidate for the position. The DTC is gratified that the Republicans have recognized her qualifications and cross-endorsed her and long-time Town Treasurer Claudette Lagasse.

A new candidate is Kathleen Zandi, running for Board of Education. Zandi is a chemist; she’s currently pharmaceutical sciences team leader at Pfizer. In town, she’s an active leader in both the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts, in which her children are members.

Also running for office for the first time is Annie Stirna, candidate for the Board of Finance along with long-time board vice-chair Gwenne Celmer. Stirna is a CPA who has been in private practice as Stirna Business Services for 20 years. Her experience with accounting, bookkeeping, and budgeting will serve the town well.

For Planning & Zoning Commission, the DTC has nominated experienced commission members Geoff Cook and Stephanie Warren, and Joan Gay as an alternate. They bring informed, intelligent, practical judgment to the commission’s important work.

Rounding out the slate are Brian Mahoney for Democratic Fire Commissioner, Bryan Young for Zoning Board of Appeals, and Matt Stillman for Board of Assessment Appeals.

“You’ll learn more about these impressive candidates this fall,” said DTC Chair Alec Martin. “For now, I will say how proud I am to be fielding such an astute, committed team that will do so much good for Killingworth.”
