Deep River Parties Announce Slates; McDonald Uncontested for 1st Selectman


Deep River Democrats and Republicans have caucused and presented their respective candidates for the upcoming municipal elections in November. While some seats are contested, incumbent First Selectman Angus McDonald (D) is running unopposed.

GOP Candidates

The Deep River Republican Town Committee met on July 24 to vote and approve its slate for the 2017 municipal election, but did not put up a candidate for first selectman. William Burdick will run for selectman.

For town clerk, incumbent Amy Winchell will run unopposed. Incumbent Tom Linder will run unopposed for town treasurer; he has also been put forward as the unopposed candidate for agent of the school deposit fund.

For the Board of Finance (BOF) incumbents William Ballsieper and John Wichtowski will both seek another term.

For the Deep River Elementary Board of Education, Nelle Andrews is running to retain her seat, and Mary-Elizabeth Massey will join her on the ticket. For Regional School District #4 Board of Education the committee has put forward Mark Grabowski.

For the Board of Assessment Appeals, Darlene Pollock will seek another term.

For the Library Trustees, the committee has put forward Stephanie Award and Alexa Jamieson, and Krista Carlson as the vacancy Library Trustee.

Democratic Candidates

The Deep River Democratic Town Committee met on July 25 to vote and approve its slate for the 2017 municipal election.

McDonald will be running unopposed for the seat of first selectman. Incumbent Duane Gates is running for the open seat on the BOS.

For tax collector, incumbent Lisa Bibbiani will run unopposed.

For the Deep River Board of Education, the committee has put forward Lenore Grunko and Robert Ferretti. For the Regional School District #4 Board of Education, the Democrats put forward Richard Daniels.

For the Library Trusteesm Patricia Risnit will seek re-election.

The deadline to file a petition for primary candidates is Wednesday, Aug. 9; should there be need, primary elections will be held on Sept. 12.
