Chester Slates Have Gister-Linn Rematch


Chester Democrats and Republicans have caucused and presented their respective candidates for the upcoming municipal elections in November. While some seats are contested and others unopposed, cross-endorsed seats include those of the town clerk, town treasurer, and tax collector.

The Democratic Slate

The Chester Democratic Town Committee met on July 25 at to vote and approve its slate for the 2017 municipal election. Incumbent First Selectman Lauren Gister will seek re-election, as will Selectman Charlene Janecek.

For town clerk, the committee cross-endorsed Debra Calamari, who currently holds the office. It also cross-endorsed incumbent Elizabeth Netsch for treasurer and incumbent Madaline Meyer as tax collector.

For the Board of Finance, current chair Virginia Carmany seeks re-election as does Richard Nygard. Currant vice-chair Bob Gorman is running for Board of Finance alternate.

For the Chester Elementary Board of Education, current secretary Robert Bibbiani, Maria Scherber, and Becky Iselin seek re-election for full terms. Charlene Fearon has been put forward to seek re-election for a two-year vacancy term. For the Regional School District #4 Board of Education, the committee has put forward Trisha Brookhart.

For the Board of Assessment Appeals, Dudley Clark seeks reelection.

For the Planning & Zoning Commission, Chairman Jon Lavy and Peter Zanardi seek re-election for full term seats. Elaine Fitzgibbons, currently an alternate, has been put forward for the four-year vacancy.

For the Zoning Board of Appeals, John DeLaura and Errol Horner seek re-election for full terms; Erik Anderson is running for a vacancy two-year seat.

For the Inland Wetlands Commission, Eric Davison has been cross-endorsed for re-election. Christine Darnell joins him on the ticket seeking re-election. For the Water Pollution Control Authority, Samuel Chorches and Edward Ward seek re-election. Edmund Meehan joins them on the ticket.

For the Library Trustees, the committee put forward Elizabeth Tucker and Margareta Carter-Ward. For justice of the peace, the committee has put forward Thomas Brelsford, and for judge of the Probate Court, the committee has endorsed Jeannine Lewis.

GOP Candidates

The Chester Republican Town Committee met on July 24 to vote and approve its slate for the 2017 municipal election. The committee released a statement following the caucus endorsing Carolyn Linn for first selectman and James Grzybowski as selectman.

For town clerk, the committee cross-endorsed Debra Calamari, who currently holds the office. It also cross-endorsed incumbent Elizabeth Netsch for treasurer and incumbent Madaline Meyer as tax collector.

For the Board of Finance, the Republicans put forward John O’Hare, who is also running for a seat on the Zoning Board of Appeals.

For the Chester Elementary Board of Education, Tom Englert seeks re-election for a full term.

For the Board of Assessment Appeals, the committee has put forward Kris Pollock.

For the Planning & Zoning Commission, the Republicans have put forward Samantha Grass for the four-year vacancy, and Elizabeth Perreault for the full-term alternate seat.

For the Inland Wetlands Commission, Eric Davison has been cross-endorsed for re-election.

For the Water Pollution Control Authority the Republicans have put forward Meredith Devanney.

For the Library Trustees, the committee has put forward Kathy Merola.

The deadline to file a petition for primary candidates is Wednesday, Aug. 9; should there be need, primary elections will be held on Sept. 12.
