Aug. 10 Event Honors Late Mary-Ann Haran Quinn

July 26, 2017: On Thursday August 10, New Reach will be holding their Annual Summer on the Sound at the Owenego Inn Beach & Tennis Club, 40 Linden Avenue, Branford to benefit New Reach's Life Haven Shelter. An old-fashioned barbecue, the event begins at 6 p.m. and includes music by Pete Lombard.

This year's Summer on the Sound is especially meaningful as Life Haven will be honoring the memory of Attorney Mary-Ann Haran Quinn, a Branford native and long-time Guilford resident, who passed away in November 2016.  As a founding member of Life Haven, this year's event will honor her commitment to the women and children whose lives were forever changed by the shelter, support, and many other generous and compassionate services offered to those who stepped through the doors at 447 Ferry Street in New Haven.

A Guilford resident of 30 years, Mary-Ann showed her husband John and their three children Mollie, Brigid and Sean how one can make a difference in your own little corner of the world if you have the profound desire and passion to do so. She often gave anonymously but locally supported Life Haven, The Catholic Charity League, Guilford Human Services, St. George Church, and Meals on Wheels. A dedicated board member of Sacred Heart Academy, she advocated for scholarship dollars that would allow for low-income students from the surrounding area to receive a private, Catholic school education.

As her daughter Mollie stated, "My mom's approach to charitable giving holds lessons for all of us.  She instilled in to me, my sister and brother that one should always live one's life with purpose and engagement. Her charitable endeavors were not heralded from the rooftop, but to those who benefited from them, they have been meaningful, and we will carry on our mom's tradition of philanthropy."

Tickets for Summer on the Sound, $65 per person, can be purchased online at www.newreach.org here or by mailing a check to New Reach, Attn:  Summer on the Sound, 153 East Street, New Haven CT 06511. For more information, please contact Mary Grande at mgrande@newreach.org or call (203) 492-4866 x 36.
